Michigan cannabis compliance consulting that goes beyond advice

Most consultants tell you what the regulations require. Social Equity Solutions builds the systems that meet them.

Founded by Melissa Jekel, SES works with licensed cannabis operators, social equity applicants, and nonprofits across Michigan to translate complex CRA requirements into programs that run, track, and produce results.

Melissa is a recognized grantee of the Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency's Social Equity Grant Program, Gold-level certified in the CRA All-Star Program, and a former member of the CRA Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Workgroup.

She helped evaluate the CRA's social equity framework. Then she went back to building programs inside it. That combination is rare, and it is what SES brings to every engagement.

Social Equity Solutions Services

  • Cannabis compliance and licensing

CRA requirements are detailed, overlapping, and regularly updated. SES translates state regulations into workable systems: license applications, Metrc compliance, audit preparation, and ongoing CRA alignment.

  • Social equity program development

A social equity plan that meets CRA requirements is one thing. One that holds up to scrutiny, qualifies for grant funding, and creates traceable community impact is another. SES builds the second kind.

  • Grant writing and funding strategy

The CRA Social Equity Grant Program awards up to $10,000 per eligible licensee annually. SES has received this funding directly. We help you structure your application, meet the eligibility requirements, and deploy the funds correctly.

  • CRA All-Star certification support

Gold-level All-Star certification unlocks grant eligibility, demonstrates commitment to equity benchmarks the state has set, and publicly distinguishes your business in a crowded market. SES holds Gold. We help you get there.

  • Starter Readiness Package

Not sure if you're ready to apply? This package assesses your current standing against CRA and municipal requirements, identifies gaps, and gives you a clear action plan before you invest in a full application. Includes a readiness report and prioritized next steps. Ideal for first-time applicants who want to start right.

  • State CRA Application Package

A complete, CRA-ready cannabis license application built for accuracy and credibility. As a licensed Michigan Notary, Melissa files all cannabis license types directly. Every packet is structured to meet CRA standards and demonstrate compliance, not just check boxes.

  • Local Municipality Application Package

Michigan municipalities set their own licensing requirements, zoning rules, and conditions. This package handles your local application from start to finish: documentation, community impact framing, and coordination with municipal processes alongside your state application.

  • Social Equity + Community Benefit Package

Your social equity plan is more than a requirement. This package builds a CRA-aligned social equity plan, corporate spend documentation, and community reinvestment strategy that demonstrates measurable impact. Strengthening your application and your All-Star eligibility.

  • Full State + Local + Social Equity Bundle

Everything in one engagement: CRA state application, local municipality application, and a complete social equity and community benefit package. Built as an integrated system so every component reinforces the others. Best value for applicants pursuing full compliance from day one.

  • Premium License Launch + Compliance Binder

The complete licensing packet plus a ready-to-use compliance binder covering your operating procedures, METRC setup, staff protocols, and CRA reporting requirements. Designed so your team can operate confidently from your first day of licensure.

  • Hourly Advisory

Already in progress but stuck on something specific? Book Melissa by the hour for targeted guidance on CRA requirements, application questions, social equity plan review, municipality negotiations, or compliance questions. No retainer required.

Task Force 1620 Community Access Network - (TF1620 CAN)

Connecting Michigan veterans with compliant cannabis access

Task Force 1620 is a Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency program that enables licensed cannabis retailers to provide 75-100% discounted or free cannabis to eligible veterans. The Task Force 1620 Community Access Network (TF1620 CAN) is Social Equity Solutions' program built around that framework, helping businesses design, implement, and track participation that is compliant, sustainable, and built to serve.

Led by someone who has been on both sides of Michigan cannabis compliance

"Equity should not be theoretical. It should be operational, measurable, and built into the structure of every program and business we create. That is what Social Equity Solutions exists to do."

Get to Know

Melissa Jekel founded Social Equity Solutions after years working inside Michigan cannabis operations, inside CRA policy processes, and inside communities most affected by past enforcement policies. She entered the industry in 2019, grew into compliance and social equity leadership roles, served on the CRA's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Workgroup, and simultaneously built one of Michigan's most active expungement networks as Director of Data and Research for the Great Lakes Expungement Network.

That combination of regulatory knowledge, operational experience, and community roots is not common in cannabis consulting. It is the foundation every SES engagement is built on.
